Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 1

From the Cultural Capital to the Sahara Dunes

Our adventure begins in the morning when we leave Fez and head south toward the Sahara Desert. We will drive through Ifrane, often called the “Switzerland of Morocco,” and stop in the ancient cedar forests to watch the wild Barbary macaques play in the trees. As we cross the Middle Atlas Mountains, the landscape shifts to reveal the lush palm groves of the Ziz Valley. By evening, we will arrive in the Merzouga Desert. Your camel awaits to take you across the golden dunes of the Sahara at sunset. You will be led to a traditional desert camp where you can enjoy a warm fire, dinner, and live drum music.

Day 2

Secrets of the Golden Desert

Wake up early to witness the spectacular sunrise over the desert, as the sand changes from dark purple to glowing gold. After breakfast at the camp, we will spend the day exploring the incredible Merzouga region. We will visit a local nomadic family, share some fresh mint tea, and learn about their unique way of life. Next, we will visit the village of Khamlia, which is famous for its rhythmic Gnawa music. Tonight, enjoy a comfortable stay at a hotel located right on the edge of the dunes.

Day 3

Canyons and Giant Gorges

After breakfast, we say goodbye to the dunes and make a brief stop at the traditional market town of Rissani. We then drive to the towering Todra Gorges, a massive canyon with rock walls rising hundreds of feet, making it the perfect spot for a peaceful riverside walk. In the afternoon, our 6 Days tour from Fes continues into the beautiful Dades Valley, where we will have dinner and spend the night surrounded by stunning rock formations.

Day 4

The Valley of Palm Trees and Sand Castles

Today, we travel to Ouarzazate, known as the “Hollywood of Africa.” Our route will take us through the spectacular Draa Valley and the Valley of Roses, where green palm trees and ancient kasbahs beautifully contrast with the arid mountains. The highlight of the trip is a visit to the Kasbah of Ait Benhaddou. This massive, clay-built city resembles a giant sandcastle and has been featured in iconic films such as Gladiator and Game of Thrones. After exploring its historic alleys, we will check into our nearby accommodations for a relaxing evening.

Day 5

Over the Mountains to the Magic Red City

After breakfast, you can visit the famous Atlas Film Studios in Ouarzazate before we start our drive across the High Atlas Mountains. As we wind through the famous Tizi N’Tichka Pass, we will enjoy the refreshing mountain breeze and stop frequently to photograph the traditional Berber villages clinging to the hillsides. We will arrive in Marrakech in the afternoon, giving you free time to rest at your riad or stroll to the lively Jemaa el-Fnaa Square to watch the street performers.

Day 6

Discover the Heart of Marrakech

On your last day, a friendly local guide will show you the best of Marrakech. Immerse yourself in history at the stunning Bahia Palace and take in the majestic Koutoubia Mosque. One of the day’s highlights will be wandering through the bustling souks, vibrant markets packed with colorful spices, leather goods, and beautiful lanterns. We will also visit the serene Majorelle Garden. Your wonderful Moroccan adventure will conclude here, leaving you with incredible memories!

Frequently Asked Questions

How long is the camel ride through the desert?

The trek takes about one to one and a half hours. It is a slow, peaceful ride, timed so that you can enjoy the breathtaking sunset over the dunes before reaching your camp.

Absolutely! If you prefer, we can arrange for a comfortable 4×4 vehicle to take you directly to your desert camp, so you won’t miss the evening festivities.

When you book with Marrocos Hassan Tour, it’s a completely private experience. You will have your own vehicle and driver, allowing you to stop for photos and travel at your own pace.

Since the Tizi N’Tichka Pass is at a high altitude, it can be cool or breezy, even in the summer. We recommend wearing comfortable layers and bringing a light jacket for the drive through the mountains.
